National Signing Day is the most ludicrous thing in college sports. It basically boils down to a college football draft but the players pick the team instead of the vice-versa. The four letter network covers the event like the Olympics, dissecting every little moment. ‘Oh look at Jamaal here, he didn’t cut his dreads so it doesn’t look like he’ll be going to BYU. I guess his choices boil down to Miami and USC. Lets see who he picks.” Then the’ll pan in on all the hats, his mother in the background smiling from ear to ear, his 15 brothers and sisters all jammed on the screen, no father in sight. They always ponder one last time before picking the hat, then once they do, they throw it on, making sure it looks right for the cameras and the whole room erupts. There is truly nothing like it. The most incredible part about it is most of these kids ‘verbally commit’ to a school before hand, then they back track and pick another school. The word loyalty absolutely means nothing to anyone of these school or kids for that matter.
Good luck Player A, congrats on picking Team B and I’m 94% sure you will be playing for Team D by the time your a senior. Bunch of attention whores.
